Pity the poor people who lived in Alameda and used the SP Red Trains to commute to San Francisco. Where in prebridge days the morning trains ran from the east end of Alameda to the west end and the Alameda Mole and the ferry to SF, starting in 1939 they now started at West Alameda going to the east end of town, across the Fruitvale bridge to Oakland and then west through Oakland to West Oakland Junction, then north through the 16th Street station and then west to and over the Bay Bridge! Talk about a long commute!
