Meinert_Junction_for_Walwood_Branch

This junction is at Meinert, about halfway between Concord and Walnut Creek. The track leading to the left is the remains of the Walwood Branch, long abandoned by the time this picture was taken. Photo from the SN Online website.

Not sure exactly where this location is but when I was young, 50's - early 60's we had relatives that lived just 2 houses off Meinert on Normandie Lane and I remember the tracks being there, though I never saw a train running on them. Was in this area just a few months ago, first time in a long long time and while Meinert isn't much wider all the open area is filled in with homes and BART now runs on an elevated fill where the SN used to be.

Our family friends had a ranch at the corner of Bancroft and Minert. My sister kept a horse there. I remember wanting the round white RR crossing sign that was on Bancroft just outside the corral fence. Early 1960's, I may have seen a train or two go by, hard to recall. When they tore out the tracks to put in the BART system, we collected the glass insulators from the SN poles they cut down. Fond memories.

My guess is that this photo was taken from the water tower seen in the next photo. Just out of the frame at the bottom would be Oak Grove Blvd. I spent a lot of time watching refers being iced and loaded at the Bancroft pear packing shed located out of sight at the top of the photo...
