According to Alvin Fickewirth in "California Railroads," United Railroads of San Francisco was incorporated March 4, 1902 as a result of a merger of San Francico & San Mateo Electric Railway, Sutter Street Railway and the Sutro Railroad Company. In 1921, operations were merged into the Market Street Railway Co. and in 1944 into the Municipal Railway of San Francisco.
