I used to have a summer job at LSI when I was in high school. This was '93 and '94. The line got a local train on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Usually 3 to 8 tank cars. Lots of fun to watch SP's switchers working hard and blocking auto traffic.

I used to work a block away from here when LSI was still being serviced by SP. I just loved to watch the trains traversing these incredibly decrepid old tracks. I remember seeing rail joiners that weren't even bolted anymore, badly misaligned tracks, and large dips. But I'd say this line saw a train 3-4 times a week.

This line is quickly disappearing as Emeryville pushes on with its development explosion. The track in this shot is no gone. It looks like they were building housing to the right of the track when the trackage area became available. Now the construction fence for the project is against the wall of the white building. There is still some track and equipment behind Orchard Supply Hardware on Ashby

I lived on Doyle Street from 1953 through 1967. This is a view from Powell looking toward Doyle where the double track straightened and proceeded toward Berkeley. I believe this line was originally part of the Red Train interuban.

Long ago this was the Ninth Street Red Train route. Up until a few years ago this was the lead to LSI in Emeryville. Scene looking east from Powell St. These tracks still exist as of this date (12/7/02). LSI is now gone. Courtesy of John Stashik
