The best I can figure looking at this and being familiar with this area today is this is now under the Freeway and BART tracks.

No, it is on the SE corner of Shafter and College Ave.

I guess my confusion is the maps show Shafter ending at College and the trackway continuing up what is now Miles. I guess most of the buildings have since gone missing. Some of the images of downtown Berkeley still have buildings from 100 years ago.

Hmmm is it possible it's on Sahafter a half block BEFORE reaching College? Because it you look at the end of this large building, it looks like the next building is at an angle indicating the road may be bearing to the right. The only place I can see where this would be is between College and Forest on Shafter. This area is now a parking lot if that is the location.

If this is Shafter and College then it IS under the freeway now. The Grove-Shafter Freeway obliterated Shafter starting at College Avenue.

This train is going through the intersection of College and Shafter, heading for the barn at 40th and Shafter. It is passing buildings on the S.E corner, where the tracks made a curve. To the left of this scene would be Claremont Jr. High School, which is on the N.E. corner of that intersection.

While Shafter now bends to the east on south side of Grove Shafter Freeway to meet Kieth, when this pic was taken it continued north another block or so under what is now the GS Freeway and on the north side of freeway bent east to meet what is now Miles. Checkout Historicaerials.com for before and after pics.

This spot is now the WB viaduct of Route 24 freeway next to the BART station. Shafter continued on the other side of College but was renamed after the freeway was built. Miles used to end at College, which explains the fork and landscaped island on the west side of College today. The freeway occupies the block between Shafter (now Miles) and Keith.
